Gossip in To Kill A Mockingbird
In To Kill A Mockingbird, many gossips are in there. character that has most rumors is Boo Radley or Arthur Radley. He was trouble maker in maycomb when he was little boy. So, Mr. Radley (Boo's father) take him to home and never let him out from Radley's house. As a time passed, people started to get curious about Radley's family, because they closed their door everyday. maycomb people never close their door unless someone is sick or dead. One of greatest gossiper in maycomb is Stephanie Crawford. Many information of Boo Radley is start with "Stephanie said," Even Miss Maudie tell scout that one-fourth of things about Boo is came from Stephanie Crawford, but Kids are also the main reason of the rumors of Boo Radley. They said Boo Radley throw poisoned nuts over the school, or he eat raw meats. Because of this rumors, some times people suspect him when misterious crimes happens, but Boo Radley is not only one that be target of gossip in Maycomb. Probably people gossip about Mrs. Dubose, too. There is no detailed information about her so far, but we can see how much kids are hate Mrs. Dubose in book said " Mrs.Dubose was plain hell " I also remember that one kid walk to school one more mile to avoid Mrs. Dubose and Boo Radley. I think Mrs. Doubose and Boo Radley are most fearful people in kid's world.
Scout also become victim of gossip in chapter 9. I don't know much about U.S history, but I guess there was many racism existed during early 1930s. Even though white people didn't like black people in that time, Scout's father defend black people. I think this part is most important par in To Kill A Mockingbird, because Scout learn many things in this part. I also don't have much information about this so far. Scout fight and get in to trouble a lot, because of this event. Scout become very patient after fighting with Cecil. Well, she couldn't hold her anger when Francis said about this and get in to trouble. There is story about gossiping woman. it's story about someone tell that woman to go up to the roof and stab the pillow and after that gather every single feathers and woman realize what gossip is. I think see how Scout gather feathers and solve the problem is the fun stuff in in To Kill A Mockingbird.
